Hand-forged in the Japanese tradition

Steel shaped by fire.
Edges held to no compromise.

Kuro blades are born in the forge — each knife a singular object, made to be passed down.

The Kuro Philosophy

Three principles. One blade.

🔥

Forged

Every Kuro blade begins as a raw billet of high-carbon steel, drawn and shaped by hammer alone. No shortcuts. No casting. The forge reveals what the metal truly is.

⚖️

Balanced

Weight distribution is calculated by hand across handle, bolster, and blade. The result is a knife that feels like an extension of the wrist — never a burden, always in command.

🗡️

Enduring

Kuro steel is hardened to 62–64 HRC and finished with a convex grind that resists chipping. Properly cared for, a Kuro knife outlasts its first owner. That is the intention.

Featured Blades

Three knives. Lifetimes of use.

Each piece is individually finished, signed, and numbered. No two are identical.

Chef Knife

Kuro Gyuto 240mm

White #2 carbon steel with a hand-applied kurouchi finish. The workhorse of the Kuro line — long, agile, and unapologetically sharp.

Utility Knife

Kuro Petty 150mm

Precision in a compact form. Blue #2 steel, reactive patina finish, and a slender grind made for detail work and exacting prep.

Vegetable Knife

Kuro Nakiri 165mm

A flat-bladed slicer built for the cutting board. Thinly ground, perfectly flat, and balanced for the full-contact chopping style of serious cooks.

The Forge

“A blade is not made. It is revealed.”

Every piece in the Kuro line is hammered, normalized, hardened, and tempered by a single smith. The process takes days. The result is an object with intention in every millimetre of its geometry.

We do not chase production targets. We observe the steel, respond to it, and finish only when the blade tells us it is ready. This is what we mean by uncompromising.
